The two seasons, honestly described
The Islands of Tahiti have a generally drier season from May to October and a warmer, wetter period around November to April. These are planning patterns, not a forecast for your week. Wind, rain and lagoon conditions can vary independently; do not assume the drier season means the flattest water. Météo-France describes the Southern Hemisphere cyclone season as extending from November to April, sometimes May, so check current forecasts and warnings for travel near those months.
The shoulder weeks that are worth targeting
Late April to early June and late September to October are dates we would compare alongside the main dry-season months. That is an editorial search strategy, not a promise of identical weather or lower rates. Price the same room, inclusions and cancellation terms on each date, and verify availability before arranging flights.
Humpback whales: check the regulated season
Tahiti Tourisme lists a whale-observation season from 20 July to 20 November. French Polynesia regulates these encounters, and the government announced updated protections and operator requirements in June 2026. Confirm the current authorisation, island-specific rules and activity offered before booking; a whale sighting or an in-water encounter is never guaranteed.

Ask for a dated quote for the exact villa, number of guests, meal plan, taxes and transfers. Compare the full stay cost across several dates, including dining and transport. Decide on a meal plan after checking the restaurants and transport available from your specific resort.
Getting the timing right from the US
Plan the full journey to Bora Bora, including the international flight, connection on Tahiti and the transfer from Bora Bora airport to your resort. Air Tahiti lists about 50 minutes for a direct Tahiti–Bora Bora flight; flights with stops take longer. Check your exact itinerary and school calendar rather than assuming that a named month avoids holidays or that a one-week trip suits every departure city.
