Capri is a separate island off the peninsula — accessible by ferry from Naples, Sorrento or Positano, with a distinctive glamour dating to the 1950s and hotel prices to match.

Which Trip Each Suits Best

First-time visitors: Positano. The cascade view is what you came for, dinners are walkable, and the town is compact enough to explore fully in 2 nights. Return visitors: Ravello. Once you've had Positano, Ravello's quiet is the correction — early-morning wisteria in Villa Rufolo's gardens, dinners at Il Flauto di Pan, the drive down to the coast when you want the beach. Style-obsessed couples with the budget: Capri. Grand Hotel Quisisana, Capri Palace Jumeirah and JK Place deliver a specific old-Hollywood glamour you won't find on the mainland.

Peak-season nightly rates for a top room: Positano (Le Sirenuse, Il San Pietro) €1,600–2,400. Ravello (Belmond Caruso, Palazzo Avino) €1,500–2,200. Day-Trip Logistics

From Positano, you can reach Capri by ferry (25 minutes), Amalfi and Ravello by bus or private car (30–45 minutes), and boat charters cover the whole coast. Ravello requires a descent to Amalfi town first for most day trips; the hotel shuttle helps. Capri is the least connected — day trips off the island mean a ferry back to the mainland, which is fine for one long day but tedious more than once.
