Best Bali Wellness Retreats for Couples: Programme, Privacy and Food Compared
Which Bali wellness retreat works when only one partner wants a programme?
REVĪVŌ is the most straightforward answer. Its official FAQ states plainly that one spouse or friend can take a comprehensive programme while the other has a leisure stay, so you can share a suite and meals without sharing a timetable. The broader point applies everywhere: both partners do not need the same schedule. The useful question is how each resort handles a guest who is not on a programme — whether they can still use the spa, dine freely and avoid feeling like a spectator.
How do the four retreats compare?
A side-by-side view of what each resort publishes on its own site, checked 6 October 2026.
| Retreat | Programme structure | Minimum stay / duration | Food | Privacy | Best suits |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| REVĪVŌ Wellness Resort | Personalised programmes after a pre-arrival questionnaire and consultation | Three nights for programmes (five to seven suggested); no minimum for room and breakfast | NŪTRIŌ; programme meal plan or à la carte | Garden and Courtyard Suites; Private Pool Villas | Couples where only one wants a programme |
| COMO Shambhala Estate | Two-day programmes, standalone or added to a stay | Two-day experiences | Estate dining | Large estate; family-friendly, not adults-only | Couples wanting a short, focused programme |
| Fivelements Ubud | Multi-day programmes including Prema Sambandha for couples | 3–14 nights depending on programme | Plant-forward | Riverfront Suites; pool suites for more downtime | Couples who both want a shared programme |
| Buahan, a Banyan Tree Escape | Flexible wellness: yoga, sound healing, meditation, journeys, spa | Three to four nights recommended, not mandatory | Open Kitchen with seasonal local harvests | Adults-only (18+); 16 open-air pool balés | Couples wanting seclusion over structure |
REVĪVŌ Wellness Resort: built for the mismatched couple
Programme stays require a minimum of three nights, and the resort suggests five to seven when time allows. Each programme starts with a pre-arrival questionnaire and a personalised consultation, and the daily schedule covers meals, treatments and workouts. Room-and-breakfast stays have no minimum, which is what makes the split arrangement practical. The Garden Suite is 126 sqm with a private garden; the Courtyard Suite adds an outdoor shower and courtyard; Private Pool Villas have their own pools. At NŪTRIŌ, programme guests can follow a meal plan while breakfast-only guests order à la carte, and the kitchen caters for vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, keto and other requirements. Trade-off: this is a dedicated wellness resort, so the non-programme partner should want a quiet stay rather than a lively one.
COMO Shambhala Estate: short, structured programmes
COMO's current structured programmes are two-day experiences, available standalone or as add-ons for staying guests. The current list includes Nervous System Rebalance, Energy Realignment, Tech-Inspired Wellness, Metabolic Reset, Wellness Weekend, Mindfulness, Posture Alignment and Cleanse. Because programmes are short and optional, one partner can book one inside a longer stay while the other simply uses the estate. Trade-off: the Estate is family-friendly, not adults-only, so expect children on some stays.
Fivelements Ubud: when you both want to take part
Fivelements Ubud publishes several multi-day programmes: Panca Mahabhuta (3–14 nights), Tri Kaya Parisudha (5–14 nights), Sattva Yatra (3–7 nights) and Prema Sambandha (3–7 nights). Prema Sambandha is the couples-specific shared programme, which makes this the better fit when both partners are committed. Cuisine is plant-forward. Riverfront Suites are 53–77 sqm for two, with a river terrace and open-air bathhouse; pool suites give more private downtime between sessions. Trade-off: the focus is shared practice, so it suits a mismatched couple less well than REVĪVŌ.
Buahan, a Banyan Tree Escape: seclusion over schedule
Buahan is adults-only (18+) with sixteen open-air private pool balés. Its "No Walls, No Doors" design is a genuine trade-off: immersive, but not a conventional sealed villa against insects, weather or sound. Wellness is flexible rather than a prescribed retreat — yoga, sound healing, meditation, the Soul Freedom Journey, the Insight Journey and spa treatments — so neither partner is committed to a timetable. The Open Kitchen uses seasonal local harvests, with the Botanist Bar and destination dining also available. The resort recommends three to four nights; treat that as guidance, not a minimum.
How does the food differ?
REVĪVŌ offers the most flexibility for split stays, with a programme meal plan for one partner and à la carte for the other. Fivelements is plant-forward throughout. Buahan's Open Kitchen is built around seasonal local produce. At COMO, ask how programme menus fit around ordinary estate dining. In every case, confirm specific dietary needs directly before arrival.
What privacy and practical constraints should you weigh?
Only Buahan is adults-only; COMO Shambhala Estate is family-friendly. Buahan's open-air balés and sloping rainforest terrain, with pathways and stairs, mean guests with mobility concerns should contact the resort before booking. Buahan is around 90 km — roughly two hours — from Ngurah Rai (DPS) depending on traffic, and private transfers can be arranged. Medical and treatment suitability must be confirmed directly with each resort. These are wellness stays, not medical care, and no resort here should be read as promising a health outcome.
Why are no prices shown?
We did not collect a clean, like-for-like official quote for two adults on common dates, so we show no indicative prices. Programme and room rates vary by season and inclusions; request a written quote from each resort.
What should you check before booking?
- Can the non-programme partner use the spa, pool and restaurants freely? - What is the minimum stay for the programme you want, and for a leisure stay? - Are meals included, and can two different meal plans run side by side? - Is the resort adults-only, or should you expect children? - Which room category gives the privacy you need between sessions? - Have you confirmed medical or treatment suitability directly with the resort? - How long is the transfer from DPS on your arrival day?
