Luxury Wellness Resorts With Sleep Programmes: What Bad Ragaz, SHA and Chiva-Som Offer

Only5Star EditorialUpdated 7 min read

Which luxury wellness resorts have a real sleep programme?

Three of the four properties here publish a defined sleep offering with named components: Grand Resort Bad Ragaz in Switzerland, SHA (the SHA Wellness Clinic group) and Chiva-Som in Hua Hin, Thailand. They differ in who runs it and how it is structured. Bad Ragaz routes sleep work through Tamina Health and its medical partners. SHA sells an add-on pack that sits on top of a stay and a main programme. Chiva-Som offers a specialisation that can be added to any retreat. The fourth, Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa, is included as a contrast: a quiet island stay with a spa menu, for travellers who want rest rather than assessment. Hotel and clinic pages confirm what is offered; they do not establish how well it works for any individual guest, and we do not rank these programmes clinically.

How do the four options compare?

The table summarises what each official page lists. It describes the offering, not its effectiveness.

Is a sleep retreat a substitute for medical care?

This is a travel comparison, not medical advice. Some options include clinical assessment; a relaxation stay is not a substitute for medical care. Results vary between people. If you have persistent difficulty sleeping, discuss it with a qualified healthcare professional; the US National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute's insomnia treatment page is a useful primary-source starting point for that conversation. Where a resort offers tests such as polysomnography, ask who interprets the results, what you receive in writing, and whether it can be shared with your own doctor.

Grand Resort Bad Ragaz: when is it the right choice?

Choose Bad Ragaz if you want the most medically framed option of the four. Its Tamina Health pages list Sleep Medicine among the services offered through external medical partners: a medical history, laboratory and lung-function tests, video polysomnography that may take place in your room or suite, and follow-up with a doctor. The appeal is that assessment happens without leaving the resort. The trade-off is that it is a medical service, so book it as one: confirm in advance which tests apply to you, how long the process takes, how results are delivered, and how billing works alongside the hotel stay. The official page does not describe a separate sleep-designed room or a fixed programme length, so do not assume either.

SHA Sleep Well pack: what does it include?

SHA's Sleep Well pack is an add-on rather than a complete programme. The official page lists a specialist consultation and overnight polysomnography, and states that the stay and the main programme are not included, and that contents vary by location. In practice that means you first choose an SHA location and a main programme, then add Sleep Well on top. Ask the clinic which components are offered at the location you are considering, in what order they happen during your stay, and whether the consultation includes a written summary. Treat any other sleep-related therapies you see elsewhere on SHA's site as separate offers unless your confirmed itinerary lists them.

Chiva-Som Sleep Enhancement: how long should you stay?

Chiva-Som offers its Sleep Enhancement Specialisation alongside any of its retreats and recommends a stay of five nights or more. The official page lists a sleep room setup, overnight ApneaLink monitoring, cortisol and melatonin testing, and a consultation with a naturopath. This is the most retreat-shaped of the three: the sleep work sits inside a longer wellness stay in Hua Hin rather than as a single assessment. Before booking, confirm which retreat it will be attached to, how many nights the specialisation actually requires at your dates, and what follow-up you leave with. We describe these services as listed; we make no claim about their outcomes.

Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa: is a relaxation stay enough?

For some travellers, the goal is simply a calm week away rather than measurement. Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa fits that brief as a spa-relaxation alternative: its official spa and wellness page lists Ayurveda, yoga, breathwork, singing-bowl sessions and a tranquillity pool, and it markets some treatments around sleep, such as a Shirodhara "Blissful Sleep" treatment and Nirvana. No diagnostic or structured clinical sleep programme was verified on the official page reviewed, and we have not verified the effectiveness of any treatment. A remote island resort can feel quiet, but conditions vary with the villa, the season and other guests; ask for a villa away from busier areas if that matters to you, rather than assuming silence or darkness.

How do you choose between them?

Start with what you want to come home with. If you want an assessment led by a doctor, Bad Ragaz is the clearest fit. If you are already drawn to an SHA programme, the Sleep Well pack is a defined add-on, as long as you confirm what your chosen location includes. If you want a longer retreat with sleep as one strand among several, Chiva-Som's specialisation, at five nights or more, suits that shape. If you want rest without tests, a relaxation stay such as Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa is the more honest choice than a programme you do not need. Distance matters too: a long-haul flight and time-zone change can work against a short sleep-focused stay, so allow recovery time either side.

What should you confirm before booking?

Ask for written confirmation of: exactly which tests and consultations are included, and at which location; who carries out and interprets any overnight monitoring; whether results are provided in writing and can be shared with your own doctor; the minimum and recommended number of nights; what is billed separately from the room; and the cancellation terms for both the stay and the programme. No like-for-like official price comparison is published across these four properties, so this guide shows no prices.

Which sources were checked for this guide?

This guide was rewritten on 10 October 2026 from the official pages linked above: Grand Resort Bad Ragaz / Tamina Health, SHA, Chiva-Som, Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa, and the US National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. Hotel and clinic pages verify what is offered, not how effective it is. This update is based on the official sources linked above; it is not presented as a first-hand stay review. The header image is generic illustrative imagery, not a photograph of any resort named here. It replaces an earlier version first published on 30 April 2026.
