Distances are deceptive — 120km can take four hours. Two regions in ten nights is right; three is a mistake.

Internal light aircraft have strict luggage limits (usually 11-14kg soft bags) for the Osa and Drake Bay.

September and October are the wettest months on the Pacific side, though the Caribbean coast runs the opposite pattern.

'Eco-lodge' is unregulated. Look for the CST sustainability certification rather than the wording on the website.

The best guides book out months ahead in dry season — secure the guide before the room.
